It’s an interesting story..
David Plimmer was asked to leave school at 14.
He managed to talk them into letting him back to school for three months. It worked. It was here David started to appreciate the value of understanding communication, in all its forms. Today he would probably be described as dyslexic, but at the time, the simple lack of communication was the root of his learning issues. It wasn’t that he couldn’t learn or communicate effectively; it was that he did so in a different way.
Refusing to let this stop him, David successfully ran his own businesses for most of his adult life. At the age of forty two, David decided to follow a lifetime goal of going back to study – this time knowing the challenges he faced and how to overcome them. Four and a half years later, he was a fully qualified Osteopath (and expert in mind boggling Latin words).
As often happens, life rarely turns out how you think, and when by chance he became involved in an organisation whose aim it was to deliver alternative rehabilitation treatment for male prisoners currently serving sentences, David, not a stranger to life’s challenges, relished the opportunity to be part of this demanding, yet rewarding project. This proved to be a pivotal moment for David: he was so impressed with the effectiveness of the counselling and psychotherapy that yet again, he headed back to study and re-trained in counselling and NLP.
NLP had always appealed to David, especially as someone who has overcome difficulties in communication and development, and having grown up with a father who experienced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder following WW2, dealing with deep rooted anger had always been of interest. As he started his training, he realised what an extremely powerful method it is for working with people: fast and effective. As a combination of many disciplines, NLP allows for flexibility to work effectively within a wide range of symptoms.
As a trained counsellor, David originally specialised in loss and bereavement, however soon found that as part of this process, client were often angry and this was a huge part of dealing with their issues. As he focused on anger and loss counselling, he found he was attracting clients who were having relationship problems, feeling frustrated, let down, abandoned, rejected and a whole host of feelings that eventually manifested themselves in anger and sometimes rage. He also discovered the angry people responded to specific interventions. Using an assortment of different tools such as NLP, transactional analysis, artwork and play therapy, he gave these clients the skills to cope in the world while they adjusted to their life changing circumstances.
